Paper Bag Book Cover

Find out how to make a book cover using a brown paper bag. This is great for covering school text books, notebooks, or any other books you have.

Age Guideline: 8 Years and Up
Time Required: 10 minutes

The above age and time guidelines are estimates. This project can be modified to suit other ages and may take more or less time depending on your circumustances. For best results, read through all of these steps before you start making this craft. Let's begin...

Gathering The Supplies

Before you start any project it is easiest to gathertogether all of the supplies. For this project you will need:

Text Book, Notebook, Etc.
Paper Grocery Bag
Cellophane Tape
Text Book, Notebook, Etc.
Scissors

Cutting the Paper Bag

Take apart the brown paper grocery bag to make one large sheet of brown paper. Do this by cutting down the side of the bag and cutting the bottom off.

Fitting the Book In

Open your book and set it on the center of the paper bag. Fold up the top edge of the paper bag and crease it then fold up the bottom edge of the paper bag and crease it.

Folding the Paper Sides

Now, remove the book and fold in both of the creased edges of the paper. Set the open book back on top of the paper bag.

Trim the Paper Bag

Trim the ends of the paper bag so they are about 3- to 4-inches longer than the edge of the book.

Fold Over the End

Fold one of the cut edges of the paper bag over the cover of the book so it fits snuggly along the edge.

Tape the End Shut

Tape the paper bag together as shown in the picture. Make sure the tape only attaches to the paper bag and not the book. This flap will act as a pocket to hold the book cover.

The Other Side

Now, repeat step 7 and 8 for the other side of the paper bag. Once both sides are done, you can easily slip the book in and out as needed!

Decorating Your Book Cover

Once you have finished assembling your paper bag book cover you should take a few minutes to personalize it! You can decorate it using crayons, markers, or paint. You can also embellish it using stickers, photos, or just about anything else you can think of. The notebook above was decorate using scrapbooking paper and letter stickers!
